I’m Julia Limbeck.

I come from a small town in New Jersey around a half hour away from the beach. I took the big leap to be the first person in my family to go to college. After much research and no background influences, I chose Virginia Tech which in my eyes is the best place on earth. Virginia Tech has a marching band, looks as close to Hogwarts as I’m ever going to get, and has its own program for what I want to do with the rest of my life: being a veterinarian.

I discovered and became passionate about what I wanted to do with my life when my dog was going to be euthanized when I was only 15 years old; the puppy my family adopted to make me feel safe while my dad worked night shifts. After a visit to the veterinarian, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. As she was about to take her last breath, I was so frustrated that I didn’t have the education to recognize Lyme disease, and to know that she might have survived if I had. Since that first death of someone close to me occurred, I knew what I was meant to do with my life and have made every life decision based on what I want to do. I drove 45 minutes away from home all summer so I could be in a hospital doing what I love. I saw the complexity of the job and what it was going to take to be a veterinarian. Nothing changed, I still never question what I plan to do with my life.

I enjoy the little things in life. For example, I like getting to know people and making others smile whether it be at a gas station or at rehearsal. I like adventures and will be the last person you’ll find sleeping until noon and watching TV all day. I’d rather be skiing, hiking, taking my cats to the park, riding on the back of a motorcycle or riding my own moped around town, doing karaoke, yard sales and flea markets, and so many more things. The unexpected trips in an hour’s radius are the best memories I ever had and the reason I say I can sleep later – always later. As I hike I continually ask myself where the beach lies between all of these mountains.
